History
The Shrine of St. John Bosco is under the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The Salesians established Don Bosco Missionary Seminary in 1976. Starting in 2004, it has since been renamed Don Bosco Formation Center.
Architecture
The church is located in the southern portion of the gated Salesian property. Its churchyard is a driveway and a garden within which rises the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Its facade is characterized by geometric shapes and colored glass panes, and the portico has a multi-gabled overhang that covers a staircase and a ramp. Entrance is through a rectilinear doorway, above which are triangular openings.
A concrete decorative band goes from the ground in the portico up to the edge of the roof, forming a central section of the facade and the pediment. Its top lines are ornamented with dentil, and the church wall it encloses is punctured with rows of stained glass windows that allow light and ventilation to spill into the choirloft and into the nave.
Celebration
The feast day of St. John Bosco is the last day of January.
