During the American period, the town hall of Barbaza was razed to the ground. Thus, it was reduced into a village along with Guisijan and annexed to Laua-an by virtue of Act No. 961 on October 23, 1903.
On June 1, 1908, the seat of government was transferred to the house of Capitan Justiniano Barrientos in Barbaza pursuant to Act No. 1748 of the Philippines Commission and Executive Order No. 14 issued by Governor General James F. Smith.
Laua-an’s municipal status was affirmed through Executive Order No. 129 by Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison on January 1, 1915.
