History
The history of Casanayan is tied with the history of Sibala, the old name of the town of Pilar. It was once part of Aranguel (President Roxas) in 1720, but the latter was reduced to a mere village of Pontevedra in 1750 after people fled from Moro raids. On October 29, 1856, Casanayan became a town and absorbed Pilar as well as Carles, Iloilo. Pilar separated in 1865 and it became an independent municipality, while Carles became a town in 1878.
During American period, Casanayan was annexed to Pilar by virtue of Act No. 720 on April 4, 1903.
Architecture
The church’s facade is made of walls of dissimilar heights and decorated with concrete bands running along vertically and horizontally. Entrance can be made through one of three doorways each with a gable and flanked by posts, the main one is decorated with a lunette of glass windows. On capitals of each concrete band is an image of holy figures. The pediment is curvilinear and topped with a cross. The bell tower, punctured by arches, is erected in the gospel side.
Celebration
The feast of St. Vincent Ferrer is April 5 in a celebration called Tingub Festival.
