History
The town was called Bugho, a word that means a small forest clearing. The word was apt, for its beginning saw people clearing the wilderness and starting to cultivate the lands. And the story of Christianity began in the latter part of the 19th century, and its church was a visita of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Abuyog.
During the American period, people from Cebu and Bohol migrated for the promising prospect of fertile soil and landholding. The settlement prospered led by Daniel Falcon Javier.
In post-war years, the municipal council passed Resolution No. 7 to secede from Abuyog. It became an independent town by virtue of Republic Act No. 3422 on June 18, 1961 and its name was changed from Bugho to Javier after Daniel Falcon Javier by virtue of Republic Act No. 4365 on June 19, 1965.
The church also became a parish in 1964, with Fr. Bonifacio Salvaña as the first parish priest. A church began construction during his time, but it was not completed due to inadequate funding. Works to complete the church restarted within the tenure of Fr. Eligio Mativo in 1989. Finally, the present-day church was blessed by Archbishop Pedro R. Dean on May 27, 1991.
A parochial school was erected in 1992, adoremus chapel and belfry were built between 1993 and 1998, and renovations of the church started between 1998 and 2002.
