History
During colonial era, San Fernando was part of the town of Milaor as a visita. An early church that was built by Catholic missionaries was placed under the spiritual protection of St. Ferdinand III of Castile, hence the name of the settlement was San Fernando. It is said that when the image of the patron was transferred to the present church, it was lost along the way. Efforts to retrieve the image proved futile. The new church then was dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
San Fernando became a pueblo on October 2, 1810 by virtue of the a decree issued by King Ferdinand VII under Charles IV. Jacinto Felipe Clemente was appointed as the first head of the local government.
The church became a parish in 1883.
