History
Lezo was called Guicod and previously part of the municipality of Kalibo. It was also called Tierra Alta (elevated land) for it was saved from being inundated when the surrounding area was flooded in the 19th century. It seceded from Kalibo and became an independent municipality through a decree issued on March 21, 1865. It was implemented on July 6 in the same year, installing Anacleto Ramos as its first head.
The church was established in 1867.
Architecture
The church’s main, pointed-arch doorway is decorated with compound-column jambs and contains an elaborately adorned frontispiece with half-quatrefoil, dentil, rosettes, a triregnum (Papal Tiara), and Saint Peter’s keys. (In other churches, the presence of these symbols may indicate it was founded by the secular clergy.) It is flanked by pilasters and walls containing pointed arch apertures with cruciform tracery.
The cornice features two rows of dentil and serves as a transition to the pediment (topped with a cross) and twin belfries. In the pediment is the niche of the patron, and both are surmounted by spires. The belfries are three-bodied structures punctured by arches and capped with onion dome roof.
Celebration
The feast of St. Isidore is May 15.
