History
The old name of the town was Esperanza. A watch tower was built in 1850 near the old church during the Spanish times to aid the villagers against Moro raids.
It was raised into a town by separating from Caibiran, one of the towns made during the visit of General Ambrocio Mojica on his way to take the position as the governor of Leyte in 1899. After the devastation wrought during the Pulahanes movement, it was annexed back to Caibiran in 1904. It became a town again by virtue of Executive Order No. 271 signed by President Elpidio Quirino on September 29, 1949.
The church was established in 1967.
Architecture
The church occupies a quadrangular footprint. Its walls are pierced with arch and rose window with cross motif. In the middle of the sanctuary a lantern is fixed through which light enters through its windows. A bell tower is seen rising above its roof.
Celebration
The feast day of St. Francis de Borgia is October 10.
