History
Tinambac was called Himoragat or Lupi in precolonial period and by the time of the Spaniards, both Tinambac and Himoragat were names that referred to two distinct territories. Eventually, the settlement ceased to be called Himoragat. It is not known how Tinambac acquired its name. Several accounts indicated it may used to describe the mound of organic fertilizers using animal manure to enrich a patch of soil.
The Negritoes were the first settlers, establishing their dwelling at the foot of Mt. Isarog. They were gradually replaced by the influx of Malay migrants, pushing them to seek refuge in remote uplands.
In 1578, the Franciscans erected a mission in Quipayo from which they eventually spread out to preach to the people living in Mt. Isarog. In 1701, Fray Francisco de la Cruz Oropesa and Fray Matias de Valdesoto began to organize Manguirin and Himoragat, placing it under the advocation of Nuestra Señora de la Anunciacion.
By 1726, the mission in Mt. Isarog underwent a lull and petered out. In 1738, their apostolate was re-invigorated along with a militaristic camaign to subdue the natives. Mt. Isarog was divided into Tigaon, Salog (which Tinambac belonged) and Manguirin (under which Himoragat was placed). The Franciscans transferred to Himoragat and much later Himoragat was placed under Tinambac.
Its church was ecclesiastically part of Goa and it only became a parish in 1817 with secular priest Fr. Cecillo de San Isidro as the first parish priest. However, it is noted that it continued to be referred to as a mission even as late as 1896.

The church has a cruciform shape, with a dome and cupola looming over the crossing. the church’s facade is largely unembellished, save for a portico and arch apertures. A church tower is erected in the epistle side.
