History
Aranguel was the old name of President Roxas and it was organized into a town in 1704. Founded by the Augustinians, its church was a visita of Panay and it was made into a parish in 1720.
The friars, however, offered it up for exchange with any town on May 11, 1737. Because of frequent raids by Moro pirates, the size of its settlement dwindled and by 1750 it was absorbed to Panay.
The church was established in 1949. The town meanwhile was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 374 signed by President Elpidio Quirino on June 14, 1949.
Celebration
The feast of St. Joseph is May 1.
