History
The church began as a visita of Capiz Parish (present-day Roxas Cathedral) and established in 1834. In 1840, a decree was issued by Governor General Luis Lardizabal elevating the church to a parish, but this was implemented in 1844.
An early church made of humble materials was built in 1855. The construction of the present-day stone church began in 1875 and completed during the term of Fr. Jose Ma. Velsoso in 1885.
Architecture
The white-maroon church has a brick exterior, and its entrance is a large arch-portal. Above is a rose window with the patron enthroned. It is flanked by walls that contain arch-alcoves of holy figures, and further flanked by free-standing walls punctured with arches. The octagonal belfry is on the rooftop in the epistle side, and in the other side there is as well an octagonal edifice, giving an impression of unfinished structure or missing belfry.
Celebration
The feast day of St. Therese of Avila is October 15.
