History
The chapel existed since 1961 and then it was declared a quasi-parish. On May 4, 2016, it was elevated to a parish that would serve lay faithful in the villages of Masaba, Mantija, Cahumayan and Dungga. It was also the day that the groundbreaking rites of a new church was held.
The new church, with a total project cost of almost 4 million pesos, sits on a property given by the Almendras family and designed by Architect Jason Horada of Home Architects and Associates.
Architecture
The church is described to be modern minimalist and round-shaped which is considered suitable to its location. The proposed plan consists of a churchyard that has a patch of garden, driveway, stairs, rampway, and a portico. Another flight of stairs would lead to the rectilinear entrance door. Its roof system is three-tiered, with the two uppermost ones having a church wall with apertures. A slender bell tower is expected at the gospel side.
Celebration
The feast of St. Pedro Calungsod is every October 21st.
