History
St. Anthony of Padua Church in Danao City was founded in 1974 and became a quasi-parish since 1977. The church complex that includes a rectory was donated by Ramon Durano Sr. to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu on June 3, 1987.
It became a parish through canonical erection presided by Archbishop Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal on December 15, 2010. It serves several villages including Cagat, Carmen, Dawis Sur, Dunggoan, Guinsay, and Hagnaya.
Architecture
The church complex also houses a school, a charity organization, life-sized images of popes and saints, and tableaus like the Stations of the Cross and the Nativity.
The church itself is similar to the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Labangon and Archdiocesan Shrine of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cebu City.
The difference is its pointed-arch design and the covered walkway enclosing the church that is supported by buttresses. Its roof also features cross gables in the similar pointed-arch form. Its facade is divided into three vertical panels, the central one containing the image of the patron and in either sides are stained glass windows of holy figures. A five-level bell tower stands in the epistle side.
Celebration
The feast of St. Anthony of Padua falls on June 13.
Services
The parish office is open from 9:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the evening.
