History
The church of Ginatilan was made a parish on October 5, 1847, separating from the mother parish of Samboan. In pre-Hispanic era, the town was called “Hinatdan”. It is believed it got its current name to suit the facility of the Spanish colonizers in referring to the town. It was established on February 2, 1829. The coral stone church was constructed beginning in 1854 and finished over a decade later, in 1866.
Architecture
A portico is the entryway to the interior of the church, which is made of two piers supporting an arch gable with elongated eaves. The entrance is through the arched doorway. Two arched windows are found in the upper register of the facade, flanking the niche of the patron in the center. Pilasters can be discerned on either side of the entrance, culminating in decorative finials. Stone cornice bands run horizontally as boundaries of each of the two levels of the facade and the pediment. The plain pediment, on the other hand, bounded by the rectilinear finials on either side and a cross is found on its pinnacle.
Celebration
The feast day of St. Gregory the great is every second Sunday of March and the town celebrates in Hinatdan Festival.
