History
The devotion to San Vicente Ferrer in Pitalo began in the 19th century. Such devotion began with an intercession of the saint during a time of epidemic, giving rise to the reputation that it is miraculous.
In 1925, a chapel was constructed. On May 3, 2016, a fire razed the structure when a visiting couple lighted 4,900 candles as thanksgiving for recovery from a serious illness and the flames engulfed the building materials made of wood, as well as damaged neighboring houses.
Architecture
The chapel is a building of white with dark red trim and gold embellishments of foliage, angels, flowers, and stars. Above the arched main entrance that leads to the interiors of the church is a statue of winged St. Vincent Ferrer with reliefs inscribed “Pitalo” above and “1925” underneath. The belfry is in the gospel side capped with white dome. The candle room is relocated outside of the church for safety reasons.
Celebration
The feast of St. Vincent Ferrer is held every May 15th annually.
