History
San Juan Nepomuceno Church used to be part of the parish of Bogo. The former became a parish on March 23, 1864. The area used to be called “Kanhagas” but later renamed after a saint. In 2022, the first Capelinha de Fatima replica in Asia was erected in Barangay Lambusan.
The church was built during the time of. Fr. Ceferino Montecillo, who was the first parish priest, on April 12, 1864.
Architecture
The church’s facade is unlike any other. It is triangular, its plain pediment it seems dictating its overall shape. Eight pilasters are found in the facade, creating seven vertical sections.
The entrance is through a rectangular three-part door adorned with massive volutes above it and a recessed niche of the patron formed by three increasingly elevated arches of fluted pilasters.
The other flanking sections have blind recessed arches built into them, while the outermost two have arch openings and lower rise.
The bell tower is erected in the gospel flank of open windows and roofed with red pyramidal roof.
Celebration
The feast of St. John Nepomuk is held every May 16th in a celebration called Lapyahan Festival.
