History
During Hispanic times, Tabogon Church’s mother parish was Sogod. It became a parish on August 6, 1851 and the church was built around 1954 or 1955. The area used to be called Agoho after an indigenous tree. It was renamed to what it is known today when the Spaniards came to refer to a place of safety where the residents escape to during sea raids.
Architecture
Tabogon Church is unique with the sparseness of its facade that is flanked by bell towers. Its portico is a small area supported by piers of Egyptian capitals and simple plinths. Its entrance is quadrangular in shape, and about it is a molding that forms into an arch. The portico’s roof has balustrade.
In the upper register are three arch windows of stained glass. The central one bears a cross and larger than the other two which bear statues of holy figures: Sto. Niño in the epistle side and St. Isidore in the other. The pediment is bare, but its fascia is ringed with relief decor painted in yellow.
The bell tower is characterized by pierced walls shaped into arch. They are made up of three levels and topped with an interestingly ornate spire.
Celebration
The feast of St. Isidore the Laborer is held every May 20th in a celebration called Sanggi Festival.
