History
When World War II ended in 1945, the Carmelite Sisters who already established a presence in Jaro two decades earlier invited the Discalced Carmelite Friars (OCD). Although it was not granted, the friars from the Washington Province was led by Fr. Patrick Shanley, OCD, their mission in Infanta, Quezon.
The Irish Province of the friars established the mission in Jaro upon the invitation of Bishop Jose Ma. Cuenco on July 12, 1953. The groundbreaking rite for the building of the church was held on March 19, 1954. And on January 14, 1955, it was inaugurated and blessed.
The church became a parish on April 20, 1969.
Architecture
The church has a cobblestone exterior. Its portico contains arches and is supported by piers. Its facade is punctured by stained glass apertures. On the pediment is a high relief an emblem. In the epistle flank the bell tower is erected and it contains two arch punctures with bells and a round opening with electric loudspeakers.
The nave walls are partitioned by straight buttresses, and in each section is a set of three arches in the clerestory (the central one depicting a holy figure, the other two flanking it are mere ornamental). The lower portion is an open wall of metalwork.
Celebration
The feast of St. Joseph is observed every first of May.
