History
The original settlement of the natives corresponds to the present-day villages Liberty and Santa Cruz. It was called Kaguingkingon in the olden times, and it was part of the jurisdiction of the town of Dulag.
When the Spaniards came, it was called Mallorca upon the recommendation of Franciscan friar and Dulag parish priest Fr. Victoriano Sela. Through time and because of the difficulty of the locals to say the name, the settlement became known as Mayorga. The first instance the name appeared was in a historical record written by Lorenzo de Paz, the gobernadorcillo of Dulag.
The natives fled from the original site because of cholera. They transferred to the present-day location of the center of the town, which in those times was called Binkay, and it was organized in 1880. The following years saw the development of the area: a road was constructed that connected to Dulag in 1881, a church was built in 1883, and a school in 1885.
Throughout its history, Mayorga would alternately gain independence as a town and lost it to be absorbed with Dulag. It was not until the passage of Republic Act No. 1220 on May 11, 1955 that it became a separate municipality.
The church was established in 1967.
