History
The chapel was built from wood and bamboo by the Catholic faithful led by the head of Barrio Ipil in 1906 and it was placed under the patronage of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception. The property where it stands was donated by Dencio Magno.
After it was destroyed by war, it was rebuilt in 1952. Its spiritual care was taken up by the ministers from Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Ormoc City.
During the term of Fr. Pastor Cotiangco, the community worked towards elevating the chapel to a parish. Through the efforts of Asociacion de Capella, a property was donated by Susana de Castañeda and a rectory and a larger church were constructed. It was canonically erected as a parish on on March 30, 1989, with Fr. Victore Pore as the first parish priest.
Architecture
Intricate openwork decorates the open wall of the facade, consisting of bars, ringlets, florets, cross, and the Christian monogram JHS (for Jesus Hominum Salvator – Jesus Savior of Mankind). Pilasters are also present, and they divide the upper sweep into sections that are pierced with arch stained glass windows and oculus. The bell tower is attached to the church in the epistle side.
Celebration
The feast day of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is December 8.
