History
The church began as a St. Christopher Magallanes Mission Station canonically erected by Archbishop of Palo Jose Palma on October 1, 2009. With Fr. Mansueto Sosing appointed as its first minister, it was created to better provide the religious needs of the people living in Balion, Bayog, Catmon, Guintigui-an, Sabang Bao, and San Jose.
Archbishop John F. Du raised the status of the church to a parish with San Jose Ang Mamumuo (St. Joseph the Worker) as its titular on February 16, 2015. St. Christopher Magallanes became the second patron of the new parish. The first parish priest was Fr. Kutz Caintoy.
Architecture
The present-day church was built through the donation of United States of America Catholic Bishops Conference after the earlier building was destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013.
Its facade of this white-deep red church and bell towers flanking it are pierced with three arch portals and rose windows, and they adorned with dentil. The main entryway has a beautiful archivolt embellished by cross, and the image of the patron is installed in the pediment.
Celebration
The feast day of St. Joseph is May 21.
