History
In the past, the town was called Guang. It is a word that means old or ripe, which was a word thought to have been inspired from maturing bananas. A strong typhoon hit the settlement, and in the place of banana trees its land grew thick with talahib and so for a time the settlement was called Talahib. It was believed that it became known as Almagro (regarded to have been derived from milagro, meaning miracle) during the colonial period.
People from Bohol and Cebu migrated to the island, resulting to a population with a majority of Cebuano speakers.
Its church was a visita of Calbayog Parish before it became a parish.
